Welcome to Strontian Holiday Lodges

FUTHER REFURBISHMENT FOR 2010

Pine Martin Visiting Mingulay

  Womens Own Sept 09

“Mingulay & Jura”. Both houses sit on an elevated south facing site next to the shores of Loch Sunart, of which they enjoy spectacular views. Strontian and its surrounding areas are undoubtedly one of the most scenic areas in the U.K. You can enjoy a rural Highland holiday but with amenities only a short walk away. Strontian also provides an excellent centre for touring Ardnamurchan and the west coast of Scotland with Fort William only half an hour's drive away and Oban one hour.

The houses are in an area known as Seaview Grazings where 15 Log lodges are spread over a 12 acre lightly wooded south facing hillside. As you drive up through the estate to your home for the week, you will pass grassy banks and shrubs before rising further and passing a majestic area of fully mature Scots Pine.

The houses sit below the parking area so as you gaze from your living room window you are only aware of the spectacular view. If you are lucky you may also spot some of our resident wildlife. A wide range of birds will come to your bird table, and Buzzards can be seen high above the loch. Some bread and jam is often enough to tempt out one of the rare and protected pine martens that inhabit the area. Please see links page foe Pine Martin at Mingulay. Roe dear can be seen and most impressive of all a rare wildcat has been spotted by many residents in 2007 and this year, please see photo on the right my first sighting of the magnificent beast

Strontian is the gateway to a very different type of country. This is Suaineart ghorm nan darach; green Sunart of the oaks; one of the very few parts of modern Scotland where it is possible to form some idea of why it was that oakwoods seemed so special to the Celts.

Go there, if possible, on one of those brilliantly sunny days which occur often in the Highlands during May and June. Take in the sights and sounds and scents of an ancient woodland as it comes into leaf.”

Set on the doorstep of the Ardnamurchan peninsular, a holiday at Mingualy or  Jura offers unrivalled beauty

I first stayed at Seaview Grazings as a small child and was privileged to stay many times over the years until I moved permanently to the village in 1995. It provided me with many happy holiday memories over the years, and I am so pleased to be able to offer the same opportunities to others.

As you take time to look through this site, I am sure you will appreciate how special and unique a holiday at Mingulay and Jura can be.
